of the fifteenth century: the Duke of Burgundy Charles the Bold against the king
of France Louis XI t
the end of the fifteenth century the kingdom of France is totally ruined and the
great lords, again independent disobey the king. Philippe
the Good, Duke of Burgundy is the most powerful of them and considers himself
the equal of the king. He is surrounded by a magnificent court (it is the time
of the tournaments).
His son, Charles
the Bold dream in great bourguignon state from Holland to Switzerland and
will oppose the King of France, Louis XI (1461-1483).
In 1477, Charles the Bold is killed in the siege of Nancy. Louis XI considerably
enlarges the Kingdom of France (annexation of Burgundy and Picardy). His son,
Charles VIII, has the same policy and at the end of
the XVs royal domain covers most of the kingdom.

centuries later, the Festival of Marle will back to the splendor of the court
of the Dukes of Burgundy, a great moment not to be missed ... 
The
flagship project of Marle will be the evocation of a large tournament of the late
fifteenth century.

tournaments were very popular at that time especially in the vicinity of
the Dukes of Burgundy and especially under Philip III the
Good. The tournaments were no meetings in both sports and courteous that
gave rise to fighting gentlemen and if the tournament undoubtedly has a military
dimension, it is primarily a ritual game. The heart of the project will be felt
dimension allegorical and symbolic drama of such events and show the public the
wealth of poetry, but also literary or musical comedy these ritualized fighting.
