Merovingian Archaeology at the Museum of the Dark Ages
Discover the Franks at the time of Clovis

Life in the country to the north of Gaul during the Merovingian times

t Marle (department of Aisne to the north of France), come and discover the Franks during the times of Clovis at Archaeological Park - Museum of the Dark Ages. You will travel across Early Middle Age, especially during the Merovingian period.

ere, Merovingian archaeology is everywhere present across reconstitutions as a Merovingian farm, a Frankish village and a Merovingian necropolis.

Visit the Museum and you will discover several frank creations as fibulas, franciscas, belt-buckles… Every object exposed at the museum comes from archaeological searches on the site of Goudelancourt-lès-Pierrepont ( Aisne).

The Museum of the Dark Ages at Marle is the result of about 25 years of archaeological researches carried out by voluntary workers. Are we excavators or responsible for excavations, conceptor of the museum or of the park ? We all are volunteers.

But for us, volunteering does not mean amateurish work! Our work is guide by a scientific and rigorous mind, and our will is to share with you what we discovered.

Come and visit the Museum, pass a pleasant and quiet afternoon in the park, or watch the shows at historical reconstitutions during our events ! It will be a great pleasure for us to share with you our passion.
